Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteerism is a driving force in our country.  If it was not for the volunteers in our organization, so may things would not be done.  Our Board of Directors is an all volunteer board.  The people who work at our off-site adoption centers are all volunteers.  So may of our special events are coordinated and run by our volunteers.  What a wonderful way to make yourself feel better and help the animals of this community at the same time.  There are opportunities that await you!

Adoption Counselor

As a HSSC adoption counselor you get the best of both worlds - interaction with both people and animals.  Adoption counselors perform a variety of functions that include assisting people in the choosing of the right pet, caring for animals at the adoption site, filling out the proper adoption forms and imparting adoption policy information to the public.

Fund Raising

There is a lot more to it than meets the eye!  Not only are volunteers needed to staff fund raising events like the Wag-A-Thon Dog Walk and Duffers for Dogs Golf Tournament, but they are also needed to bake cakes, do arts and crafts projects, and a host of other endeavors.

Animal Fostering

Are you looking for love but fearful of long-term commitments?  If so, our foster care program might be just what you're looking for.

Foster care provides temporary homes for injured and special needs animals.  It may be a mama dog or cat with a new born litter or a litter without a mom that needs help for a few weeks until they are old enough to be adopted.  It may be an injured animal that needs a safe place to recover.

The few weeks in foster care can make all the difference between a happy, well socialized pet who will charm the socks off any prospective adoptee, and an animal that is afraid and cowers against the back wall.

Help At the Shelter

If you have a spare day (or even a few hours) to help at the shelter, you are welcome.

Dogs need to be walked and socialized.

Cats need to be pampered.

Assist showing the animals to prospective adoptee.
